Asbury College Application
The Facts
Asbury College is a rather small, Christian, independent institution located in the town of Wilmore, Kentucky, and is home to over 1,020 undergraduate students and approximately 200 graduate and part-time professional students. The college is actually one of the oldest institutions in the state, as it was founded in 1890. The students are able to take courses in both the liberal arts and sciences as well as preprofessional studies. The academic divisions offer broad majors in the areas of biological science (home to a terrific program in biochemistry), business (a popular major with programs as diverse as accounting as well as recreation and leisure services), communications and the arts (which includes a wonderful program in broadcasting), computer and physical science, education (the most popular major with programs as diverse as elementary education as well as science education), health professions (which offers two majors in exercise science and medical laboratory technology), as well as the social sciences (home to a very rare major in biblical languages). Some of the most popular majors among students are in the areas of education, communication and the arts, and Christian ministries.
Admission to Asbury College is not highly competitive among the relatively few students who apply, however, the overall number of applicants has been increasing with each passing admissions cycle. Last year, over 820 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 600 of those students were accepted; about 260 of the admitted students enrolled for the coming Fall semester. The admitted students had an average combined SAT score ranging from 1250 to 1400 and an average comprehensive ACT score ranging from 28 to 33. Additionally, more than 85% of the admitted students were ranked in the top 10% of their high school graduating class with an average high school GPA of about 3.85.
Asbury College has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of 13:1, and it is very rare to find a course at any level with more than 15 students. Most of the classes are discussion based, where all students have a chance to have their voices heard. Professors also get high marks in terms of accessibility and willingness to help students out when they may need it.
The Social Scene
The town of Wilmore is quite rural, and as a result doesn't really offer students much in the way of entertainment, however, the city of Lexington is only about 20 minutes away by car, and is a popular place to hang out on the weekends. The school itself has no fraternities or sororities, however, there are many student clubs and organizations that are quite popular with students, and run the gamut from a newspaper to a musical theater society.
The dating scene isn't very diverse, however, there are plenty of well-intentioned possibilities waiting for you...

What's Bad
"This school is really strict, the administration basically watches your every move."
"There are a lot of really, really conservative people here that don't want to have anything to do with other people's opinions."
"There isn't really any on-campus life. Things are pretty boring."
