Babson College Application
The Facts
Babson College is a small liberal arts college located in the town of Wellesley, Massachusetts, and is home to approximately 1,735 undergraduate students and about 1,672 graduate students. The schools is divided up into several smaller undergraduate schools including schools of accounting, law, arts and humanities, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, history and society, management, marketing, and math and science. The school offers many majors within these departments; some of the most popular choices are in business, psychology, finance, management, and biology. Babson College is perhaps best known for its renowned business school in which students are required to create their own business as early as their freshmen year. They are also able to design their own curriculum so they are able to focus on the exact facet of business in which they are interested.
Admission to the college is competitive, and the applicant pool tends to be comprised of highly self-motivated students who have been academically successful in the past. Last year, over 2,500 students applied for admission and about 1,150 were accepted. Eventually however, just over 400 of those admitted actually enrolled for the coming Fall semester. Those admitted had an average combined SAT score ranging from 1150 to 1320 and an average comprehensive ACT score ranging from 26-30. Furthermore, over 81% of those admitted were ranked in the top 25% of their high school graduating class.
The students say that their teachers are highly accessible, and are quite influential in helping the students to choose their eventual careers. The college has an impressive student to faculty ratio of only 13:1, and students say it is rare to find a class with more than 20 students. There are also many many internship opportunities available to students and the majority of them take advantage of those opportunities.
The Social Scene
Babson's party scene is pretty weak; this might have a little something to do with the administration's strictly enforced party and alcohol policy. In fact, no more than 15 students are allowed at any one gathering, but most students are too busy studying to party very often. There are no fraternities or sororities at Babson, but students don't really seem to mind.
Sports are a pretty big deal at Babson, which is a NCAA Division III school. The men's basketball team has been quite successful in recent years, and their games are some of the only times when more than 15 students actually do gather together. There are also many student run clubs and organizations that students get involved in such as the Asia Business Forum, the Buffoonery Committee, and the Babson Barbecue Forum.
The dating scene at Babson is pretty nonexistent; people are way too focused on their business projects to have time for anything other than a power lunch.
