The Facts

Bellarmine University is a moderately sized private institution located in the city of Louisville, Kentucky, and is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. The school is home to over 1,600 undergraduate students and approximately 1,400 graduate and part-time professional students who are able to take courses in one of the university's four undergraduate schools or three graduate schools which offer academic programs in the areas of both the liberal arts and sciences as well as preprofessional studies. The school's academic divisions offer broad majors in the areas of biological science, business (a large and popular program with majors as diverse as accounting and international business management), communications and the arts (home to a great program in the visual arts), computer and physical science (which includes a unique program in actuarial science), education, engineering and environmental design, health professions (also a large and popular program with majors as diverse as cytotechnology, physical therapy, and preveterinary science), and social sciences. Bellarmine University offers its students a rather wide variety of majors in both the liberal arts as well as preprofessional studies, however, some of the most popular with students include majors in the areas of pre-medicine, accounting, business, as well as nursing.

Admission to Bellarmine University is not very competitive, but the overall number of applicants increases with each passing admissions cycle. Last year, over 1,500 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 1,220 of those students were accepted, of those, about 520 enrolled for the coming Fall semester. The admitted students had an average combined SAT score ranging from 1120 to 1200 and an average comprehensive ACT score ranging from 24 to 30. Additionally, more than 83% of those admitted were ranked in the top 10% of their high school graduating class with an average high school GPA of about a 3.8.

Bellarmine University has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of 14:1, and it is rare to find a course at any level with more than 15 students. Professors are highly dedicated, and do all they can to make sure their students have access to them as often as possible.

The Social Scene

The city of Louisville is quite large and offers students plenty in the way of entertainment including bars, clubs, restaurants, shops, museums and concerts. Most students own cars, as the public transportation system isn't terribly efficient. The school itself is home to 4 national fraternities and sororities; however, they aren't terribly popular with students in terms of membership. The Greeks do throw a fair number of parties throughout the year that are very well attended, and students seem to enjoy the large amount of alcohol present at these soirees. The administration, however, has become increasingly strict on the party scene, and several people have gotten into some rather grave trouble as a result.

The dating scene isn't fantastically diverse, however, the students are quite personable and we hear quite attractive as well...

What's Good

"The school is really intimate and you get a chance to get to know nearly everyone on campus, which is awesome!"

"The professors are wonderful, and they are obviously passionate about their jobs."

"The dorms are actually quite nice and not too small. You have a pretty good amount of space."

What's Bad

"Sometimes the people here get on your nerves, which isn't good because the school is very tiny."

"There are often on-campus housing shortages, and finding an apartment is actually quite tough and not cheap."

"The administration feels too intrusive, like they're watching your every move like Big Brother or something."
