Bentley College Application
The Facts
Bentley College is a fantastic business school located in the town of Waltham, Massachussetts, and is home to over 4,000 undergraduate students and approximately 1,330 graduate students. The school is primarily a business school, but the administration ensures that their students get a solid liberal arts education as well. The college is divided up into several smaller specialiazed schools including schools of accounting, finance, marketing, design and corporate communication, and computer information systems. The school offers over twenty majors in business-related areas; some of the most popular choices include management, marketing, finance, accounting, and information and corporate communications.
Admission to Bentley is fairly competitive for a school of its size, and each year, the administration makes the admission standards higher and higher. Last year, over 6,000 students applied for admission and approximately 2,500 were accepted; of those, about 955 enrolled for the coming Fall semester. The admitted students had an average combined SAT score ranging from 1100 to 1270, and an average comprehensive ACT score ranging from 22 to 28. Furthermore, over 72% of those admitted were ranked in the top 25% of their high school graduating class.
Bentley College has a manageable student to faculty ratio of 13:1, and students are monitored closely by faculty members for their entire stay at the school. The college also boasts a terrific one-on-one tutoring program where students can get assistance in every class, if they so choose. Many professors are part-time as they are leaders in the world of business, but students say they spread their time evenly between working and teaching.
The Social Scene
The town of Waltham is only about ten miles away from the city of Boston, so students are able to get both the small-town experience and the rush and excitement of the city. Many students own cars so they are able to hop back and forth between Waltham and Boston, but if you don't have a car, there is a great commuter train that is cheap and safe. The campus is known for being very safe and clean, and students note that the new student center is the best part of campus; it has a dining hall, a pub, and other entertainment venues.
Students at Bentley are more active than the average college student; there are many student-run clubs and organizations, most of them business-focused, that students are heavily involved in. The school is also a member of the NCAA Division I, and has over 23 varsity teams that are also quite popular with the student body. Those who aren't on the teams show up to games by the hundreds to cheer their peers on.
The dating scene is pretty materialistic; expect to be wooed with pricey designer gifts.
What’s Good
“The people here are really driven and love what they do. The atmosphere is conducive to working hard and being passionate about your classes.”
“The campus is incredibly safe. I could walk around at 3 in the morning and not bat an eye.”
“You get a free laptop when you are admitted! How awesome is that?”
What’s Bad
“People are really cliquey and snobby here. If you don't have the latest designer clothes, you're nothing.”
“We sort of have to wear business attire to class, which can get really annoying. Sometimes you just want to wear sweats.”
“The atmosphere can be really cutthroat. It's a bunch of future Wall Street mavens, so it can be pretty harsh here.”
