The Facts
Campbellsville University is a small, private institution located in the town of Campbellsville, Kentucky, and is affiliated with the Kentucky Baptist Convention. The school is home to over 1,100 undergraduate students and approximately 800 graduate and part-time professional students who are able to take courses in one of the university's six undergraduate or seven graduate schools, which offer programs in both the liberal arts and sciences as well as preprofessional studies. The school's academic divisions offer broad majors in the areas of biological science, business (a perennially popular program with majors including accounting and office supervision and management), communications and the arts (home to wonderful programs in English and the visual arts), computer and physical science (which includes a rather innovative program in information sciences and systems), education (home to a hard-to-find program in athletic training), health professions (which includes a terrific program in sports medicine), and social sciences. Campbellsville University offers its students a rather wide range of majors in both the liberal arts and sciences, and preprofessional studies, however, some of the most popular with students include majors in the areas of biology, chemistry, music, elementary education, business administration, and psychology.
Admission to Campbellsville University is not very competitive; however, most of the applicants are students who have been very academically successful in the past. Last year, over 1,055 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 840 of those students were admitted; of those, about 365 enrolled for the coming Fall semester. The admitted students had an average combined SAT score ranging from 1090 to 1120 and an average comprehensive ACT score ranging from 21 to 27. Additionally, more than 75% of the admitted students were ranked in the top 10% of their high school graduating class with an average high school GPA of about a 3.78.
Campbellsville University has a rather manageable student to faculty ratio of 16:1, and it is rare to find a course at any level with more than 18 students. Most classes are discussion based, and all students really get a chance to have their voice heard. Professors also get high marks from students for accessibility and willingness to help out when a student may need it.
The Social Scene
The town of Campbellsville is quite small, and doesn't really offer students much in the way of entertainment; however, the city of Lexington is only about an hour and a half away by car, and many students head into the urban area on the weekends to take advantage of its more lucrative cultural and social offerings. The university has no fraternities or sororities, which limits the on campus party scene to some extent, however, students don't seem too flustered at their absence. Drinking does happen at the school, but it is by no means the most popular mode of social interaction. Most students would prefer to hang out in small groups or get involved with one of the many student groups and organizations on campus.
The dating scene isn't remarkably diverse or exciting, but there are plenty of good-natured individuals who would love to go out on a date...
