Dear College Admission Expert,
I feel my course load is really difficult, and I find it really hard to fit in community service and extracurricular activities without my grades suffering. What should I be more focused on in order to get admitted to colleges; grades, or community involvement?
Sandy

Hi Sandy,
That question is a difficult one, and schools definitely vary on this matter, however, the best advice I can give you is BALANCE! Often times, when admissions officers see that you do nothing but school, even if you have a 4.0, they will assume that you aren’t really well- rounded, a quality that is important to succeed at university and beyond. Take a look at your course load, and see if you can come up with a better time-management system so you can make some time for involvement in your community. A stellar transcript is great, but you also should have a hefty list of activities, showing that you are broad-minded and passionate in many areas. More and more universities are looking at the whole student, not just the scholar. So make some time in your schedule to give back to the community, and I promise, those projects will do nothing but complement your brilliant grade point average.
