California State University, San Bernardino Admission
California State University, San Bernardino Undergraduate Program California State University, San Bernardino Application
The Facts
California State University, San Bernardino is a moderately sized member of the larger, state supported California State University system which encompasses 22 member universities throughout the state. CSU San Bernardino is located, appropriately, in the town of San Bernardino, California, and is home to over 10,000 undergraduate students and approximately 6,500 graduate and part-time professional students. The university is divided into several smaller graduate and undergraduate schools which specialize in the areas of business and public administration, natural sciences, education, arts and letters, as well as social and behavioral sciences. The school has a very large graduate program which houses nineteen specialized graduate schools, as opposed to the five undergraduate schools. The academic divisions offer a broad range of majors, in the areas of agriculture, biological science, business (which includes a unique program in small business management), communications and the arts (which is home to an innovative program in ethnomusicology), computer and physical science, education, engineering and environmental design (which includes an interesting program in furniture design), and social science. Some of the most popular majors chosen are in the areas of business administration and liberal arts.
Admission to CSU San Bernardino is not quite as competitive as are some of the other CSU member schools; however, the number of students who apply has been increasing with each passing admissions cycle. Last year, over 6,500 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 4,000 of those students were accepted; of those, about 1,400 matriculated. The admitted students had an average combined SAT score ranging from 990 to 1070, and an average comprehensive ACT score ranging from 18 to 25. Additionally, more than 67% of those admitted were ranked in the top 25% of their high school graduating class with an average high school GPA of about 3.54.
CSU San Bernardino has a student to faculty ratio of 20:1, and while most of the general education classes are held in large lecture halls, the more specific classes are primarily discussion based, and give students plenty of opportunity for hands-on experience.
The Social Scene
The city of San Bernardino is rather suburban, and doesn’t really offer students a whole lot in the way of entertainment; however, the campus is only located about an hour’s drive away from the city of Los Angeles, and is also quite close to the ocean beaches where surfing, sun bathing, and beach volleyball are some very popular activities. The university is also home to 15 fraternities and sororities, and many students join a Greek organization at some point. The Greeks are a driving social force on campus, and throw some great parties. Drinking is king here, even though the administration has made consistent efforts to come down hard on kegging and binge drinking.

What’s Good
“The party scene here is fantastic, and you can be sure you will never be sitting around saying ho hum on the weekends.”
“The resources here are great in general, and there are plenty of internship opportunities in Los Angeles.”
“Unlike a lot of the other CSU schools, the administration is really accessible and easy to get a hold of here.”
What’s Bad
“People don’t seem to care much about their classes. There’s a lot of talk and no work. It drives me nuts.”
“The dorms are TINY! There’s hardly even room to move your arm when you’re taking notes.”
“A lot of the lecture classes are really boring, and the professors don’t make much of an attempt to be engaging.”
