Dear College Admission Expert,
I’m having a very difficult time deciding between a more suburban school with a defined, centralized campus, and a more urban school where the university is mixed in with the city. Both have good programs, but I just don’t know which is the better option!

Hi Alex,
Both settings have their perks. More and more urban schools are popping up, however, the classic campus-centric schools are more popular than ever. Having a campus is great in that you know where everything is, and you have a very centralized community and gathering place. However, some students say they get stir crazy, and that a compact campus makes for a bit of claustrophobia. Urban campuses are often barely campuses at all, with the college’s buildings simply interspersed within the city itself. Students tend to love having the entire city as a campus, basically, and get to experience diversity in all its forms. You should look at both options very thoroughly, and see which school fits you best. Ultimately, you are there to learn and prepare for the “real world,” so you should look at the school that has the best program to suit your particular ambitions and interests.
