Dear College Admission Expert,
I’ve heard that many colleges have quota to fill when it comes to accepting minorities, in order to keep their school as diverse as possible. If I’m not a ‘minority,’ will my chances of admission be adversely affected?

Stephanie,
It’s true that many schools look to fill a “diversity quota,” if you will, and diverse students who excel academically often have a slightly higher chance of admission, however, it totally depends on the school, and the individual students who apply. Affirmative action admissions policies have been a touchy subject in recent years, but not all colleges conform to this policy. The bottom line is, your chances of admission are probably about the same as everyone else’s. If you have good grades, have been involved in your community, and seem like a generally interesting human being, I wouldn’t worry too much.
