Dear College Admission Expert,
I was surprised in how little information some colleges request along with the application itself. I’m afraid they won’t get a clear enough picture of me through the required materials. Is it all right to send some additional material and information?

Carlos,
Colleges request what they do for a reason, mainly being that they have to look through often thousands of applications before making final decisions. They know exactly what they need to see to accurately and fairly asses a student, and they have usually had decades of experience in student discernment. It’s probably not a very good idea to send more materials than they have requested. Usually, it will be a waste of time on your part, because they will most likely not even peruse the extra things you send them. Also, it can sometimes reflect negatively upon you, as the admissions officers often see this as being overeager and trying to cover up bad academic performance. Just stick to what the application requests.
