The Facts
Georgetown College is a small, private institution appropriately located in Georgetown, Kentucky, and is affiliated with the Kentucky Baptist Convention. The school is home to over 1,250 undergraduate students and approximately 500 graduate and part-time professional students who are able to take courses in both the liberal arts and sciences as well as preprofessional studies. The school's academic divisions offer a wide array of majors in the areas of biological science, business (a large and popular major with programs as diverse as accounting, management information systems, and recreation and leisure services), communications and the arts (home to terrific programs in art, English, German, French, music, and Spanish), computer and physical science, education (home to unique programs in foreign language and music education), engineering and environmental design (which only offers a program in environmental science), health professions (home to a popular nursing program), and social sciences. Some of the most popular majors include biology, English, business, and psychology.
Admission to Georgetown College is not very competitive currently, but the overall number of applicants has been increasing with each passing admissions cycle. Last year, over 900 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 850 of those students were accepted; of those, about 370 matriculated. The admitted students had an average combined SAT score ranging from 1100 to 1180 and an average comprehensive ACT score ranging from 25 to 32. Additionally, more than 87% of the admitted students were ranked in the top 10% of their high school graduating class with an average high school GPA of about 3.9.
Georgetown College has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of 14:1, and it is rare to find a course at any level with more than 15 students. Most classes are discussion-based, and students really get a chance to have their voice heard. Students rave about the personability and accessibility of their professors, saying they are always available to provide assistance.
The Social Scene
Georgetown is actually a suburb of the city of Lexington, and is located about 12 miles from the city center. Students have many entertainment options, including plenty of bars, clubs, restaurants, museums, shopping, performances and concerts. However, most students do own cars as the public transportation in the area isn't terribly efficient. The college is home to nine national and local fraternities and sororities which are quite popular with students and help to make the on campus social scene very active. Their weekends parties are well-attended by Greeks and non-Greeks alike, and at these soirees, alcohol is definitely the most popular mode of social interaction.
The dating scene is actually quite diverse, and there is pretty much something for everyone at this college...

What's Bad

"The Greek parties are kind of lame. It's the same thing over and over again."
