The Facts

Ashland University is a rather small, private institution located in the appropriately titled town of Ashland, Ohio, and is affiliated with the Brethren denomination. The university has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 6,200 students, while the graduate division of the Dauch College of Business and Economics is significantly smaller, and is home to about 652 graduate business students. All of the currently enrolled students have had an average of 12 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 35, however, ages range from 22 all the way up to 62. Approximately 5% of students already have a graduate degree of some sort, and none of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school. The graduate Dauch College of Business and Economics is perhaps best known for its emphasis on finance, as well as for its integration of lecture and discussion. The school offers graduate business degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), as well as internship opportunities and work-study positions. The school also has a popular Baldridge Speakers Series, the Cockroft Forum for Free-Enterprise, an Executive in Residence program, as well as an MBA seminar series. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of finance, executive management, as well as human resource management.

Admission to the graduate division of the Dauch College of Business and Economics is not extremely competitive, and relatively few students apply; last year, over 275 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 265 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 222 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.25, and the GMAT is not required by the admissions committee. The committee does require, however, a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.75, as well as work experience and a strong background in mathematics. Students are able to begin graduate course work in the fall, spring, or summer, and are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis.

The Dauch College of Business and Economics has 22 full-time faculty members, of whom 98% hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 10 part-time faculty members, of whom 60% hold a doctorate. The average graduate business class usually numbers around 22 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 7 courses at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather limited placement services as a result of the fact that most students are already employed full-time when they enroll. These limited services are available, however, to both current students and alumni for an unlimited amount of time after they receive their degrees. Some of the services include a referral network as well as a credential file.
