The Facts

Auburn University is a rather large, public institution located in the appropriately titled town of Auburn, Alabama, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 23,275 students. The university's graduate College of Business, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 530 graduate business students. Approximately 60% of the currently enrolled students have had an average of about 6 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 27, however, ages range from 22 all the way up to 58. Approximately 42% of the currently enrolled students enter directly from undergraduate school while about 13% of the students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The graduate business school is perhaps best known for its emphasis on analytical skills and decision making in preparing students for executive positions in the business world. The school offers graduate business degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Accountancy (MAc), Master of Science in Economics (MS), Master of Science in Business Administration in management, finance, and marketing (MSBA), Master of Management Information Systems (MMIS), as well as a doctoral program in management. The school also offers several interdisciplinary programs, internships, as well as joint research programs. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of business administration, management, as well as accounting.

Admission to Auburn University's graduate College of Business is fairly competitive among those who apply; last year, over 290 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 196 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 132 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.24, as well as an average GMAT score of about 581. The admissions committee requires all applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.5, as well as a minimum GMAT score of at least 450. Students are able to begin their graduate course work in the fall only, and are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis.

The graduate business school has 90 full-time faculty members, all of whom hold a doctorate. The average graduate business class usually numbers around 40 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 16 credit hours at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather extensive placement services; last year, over 300 companies were actively recruiting on campus, 65% of which were national corporations. The majors most in demand by these companies included management information systems as well as finance. The average starting salary of the most recent graduating class was around $51,772, however, it ranged from $35,000 to $70,000. Over 70% of the same class were able to find jobs within three months of receiving their graduate degrees.

What's Good

"The faculty are all full time, so they're very dedicated to their jobs and to the school."

"There are plenty of internships available, which can be excellent learning experiences."

"The career services are amazing, and there are always companies recruiting on campus."

What's Bad

"Some of the classes are a bit too large; I wish they were more based in discussion rather than lecture."

"Things can become pretty competitive here; people get a bit mean when they feel threatened."

"I wish we were in more of a real city where the networking options were a bit more plentiful."
