The Facts

Auburn University is a rather small, public institution that is located in the town of Montgomery, Alabama, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 5,010 students. The university's Graduate School of Business, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 240 graduate business students. Approximately 90% of the currently enrolled students have had an average of 5 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 29, however, ages range from 21 to 53. Approximately 20% of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school, while about 5% already have a graduate degree of some sort. The university's Graduate School of Business is perhaps best known for its emphasis on problem solving, as well as decision making and real-world applications of theory. The school offers graduate business degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), as well as MBA programs with specialties in accounting, contract management, economics, finance, global business management, information systems, management, management of information technology, marketing, as well as nursing administration. The school also offers plenty of work-study and internship opportunities throughout the community. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of finance, accounting, human resources management, business policy as well as marketing.

Admission to the university's Graduate School of Business is not particularly competitive among the relatively few students who apply; last year, over 95 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 84 of those students were admitted. Eventually however, only about 72 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.0, as well as an average GMAT score of about 500. The admissions committee requires all applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.0, as well as a minimum GMAT score of at least 400. Students are able to begin their graduate course work in the fall, spring, or summer, and are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis.

The university's graduate business program has 35 full-time faculty members, all of whom hold a doctorate degree. There are no part-time faculty members. The average graduate business class usually numbers around 29 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 2 courses at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather limited placement services as most students are already fully employed when they enroll. However, the services that exist are available to both current students and alumni for an unlimited amount of time after obtaining their degree.

What's Good

"The faculty are all full-time, so they are intrinsically dedicated to the school and their students."

"There are a surprising amount of great internships available, and they've really valuable experiences for me."

"The classes are nice and small, so you're able to have discussions."

What's Bad

"I wish there were more career services available. If you don't have a job, there's not much help at the university for you."

"Because it's a rather small program, people get very competitive and try to distinguish themselves."

"I wish we were in more of a business center of the country. There isn't a huge amount going on in the surrounding area."
