The Facts

California Lutheran University is a rather moderately sized, private institution located in the town of Thousand Oaks, California, and is affiliated with the Lutheran Church. The university has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 4,200 students, however, the university's graduate business program is significantly smaller, and is home to about 360 graduate business students. Approximately 91% of the currently enrolled students have had an average of about 5 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 29, however, ages range from 23 all the way up to 67. Approximately 1% of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school, while about 5% of the students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The graduate business school is perhaps best known for its emphasis on various aspects of the business world including management, religion, education, as well as service. The school offers graduate business degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), as well as several foreign exchange partnerships, internships, work-study opportunities, joint research, as well as a specialty program in financial planning. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of finance, management, marketing, accounting as well as information technology management.

Admission to the university's graduate business program is quite competitive among those who apply; last year, over 215 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 152 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 140 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.56, as well as an average GMAT score of about 580. The admissions committee requires all applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.0, as well as a minimum GMAT score of at least 450. Students are able to begin graduate course work in the fall, winter, spring, or summer, and are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis.

The graduate business program has 14 full-time faculty members, of whom 93% hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 18 part-time faculty members, of whom 3% hold a doctorate. The average graduate business class usually numbers around 16, and most faculty members teach an average of 6 courses at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather extensive placement services available to both current students as well as alumni for an unlimited amount of time after receiving their degrees. Some of these services include career counseling, resume critique, resume referral, networking events, alumni seminars, as well as online job listings.
