The Facts

California State University, Fullerton, is a rather large, public institution located in the appropriately titled town of Fullerton, California, and has a total undergraduate and graduate enrollment of over 30,445 students. The graduate College of Business and Economics is, however, significantly smaller, and has approximately 350 graduate business students studying at the school part-time. About 95% of currently enrolled students have had an average of 5 years of professional full-time experience, which is a factor that the admissions committee seriously considers when reviewing applications. As a result of this fact, the average age of entrance is around 29, however, students' ages range from 21 all the way up to 58. Approximately 10% of currently enrolled graduate business students entered the school directly after their undergraduate education, and about 6% of enrolled students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The College of Business and Economics is perhaps best known for its integration of theory with practical case studies, and a required "capstone course" that includes a real-world small business consulting project. The graduate business school offers degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Accountancy (MSAcc), Master of Science in Taxation (MST), Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS), as well as Master of Arts in Economics (MAEc). Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of accounting, economics, as well as finance.

Admission to California State University Fullerton's graduate College of Business and Economics is extremely competitive among those who apply; last year, over 910 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 457 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 133 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.1 and an average GMAT score of 518. The admissions committee requires that all applicants have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.5 and a minimum GMAT score of at least 450. GRE's are only required for those students wishing to be candidates from the Master of Arts in Economics degree, and in that case, a minimum combined score of 1500 is required. Students are able to start course work in either the fall or spring, and admission decisions are made on a rolling basis.

The College of Business and Economics has 42 full-time faculty members, of whom 98% hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 3 part-time faculty members, 1 of whom holds a doctorate. The average graduate business class is usually about 22 students, and on average, faculty members teach around 9 credit hours.

Placement Services

The school has rather limited placement services, as most students already have full-time jobs, and in most cases, their companies strongly encourage their attendance, and often finance it, as it will only make them more valuable to the company itself. Alumni have access to the placement services for an unlimited number of years after they receive their degree through the university placement office.

What's Good

"The classes are nice and small, which makes case studies and discussion very manageable."

"I really like the emphasis here on the practical integration of theory. It makes all of the dogma easier to use in life."

"There are a huge and diverse number of courses to choose from; sometimes it's hard to make any decisions because you want to take them all."

What's Bad

"There is a lot of competition among students, and because a lot of us are already employed, it tends to be in the vein of asserting your authority."

"There are some professors that are too wrapped up in their own careers to help students out much."

"I wish there were better placement services. There aren't enough recruiters that come to campus."
