The Facts
California State University, Hayward is a rather large, public institution located in the appropriately titled town of Hayward, California, and has a total undergraduate and graduate student population of approximately 13,240. The graduate College of Business and Economics has a graduate business student population of about 770, and over 90% of these students have had an average of 8 years of professional business experience. As a result of this rather impressive fact, the average age of enrollment is around 30, however, ages range from 21 all the way up to 70. About 10% of students enroll directly from undergraduate school, and approximately 2% of students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The College of Business and Economics is known for giving students a strong theoretical foundation with required courses in 14 functional areas. Students participate in many case studies and group projects to help apply these newly-learned theories and skills. The College of Business and Economics offers graduate degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Arts in Economics (MAEcon), Master of Science in Business Administration (MSBA), Master of Science in Taxation (MSTax), as well as Master of Science in Telecommunications (MSTelSys). Some of the most popular areas of study with students include courses in the areas of accounting, finance, taxation, ecommerce, as well as human resource management.
Admission to CSU Hayward's College of Business and Economics is quite competitive among the students who apply; last year, over 415 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 300 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 185 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.22 as well as an average GMAT score of about a 539. The admissions committee requires applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.5 and a minimum GMAT score of at least 500. (GRE's are also strongly recommended) Students are allowed to being the MBA program in either the fall, winter, spring, or summer, and admissions are on a rolling basis.
CSU's College of Business and Economics has 75 full-time faculty members, of whom 90% hold a doctorate degree. There are also 48 part time faculty members. The average graduate business class size is around 25 students, and most professors teach an average of 3 courses.
Placement Services
The College of Business and Economics has a rather extensive placement program, even though the majority of students already have a full-time professional job. Most students wish to move up in the world of business after they obtain their graduate degree, and the school's placement services do an excellent job making that possible for graduates. Services are also available to alumni for an unlimited number of years after they receive their degree, both at the career development office and online.
