The Facts

Dartmouth College is a rather small, private institution located in the town of Hanover, New Hampshire, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 5,527 students. The graduate Tuck School of Business, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 463 graduate business students. All of the currently enrolled students have had an average of about 5 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 29, however, ages range from 23 to 37. None of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school, while about 2% of the currently enrolled students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The Tuck School of Business is perhaps best known for its emphasis on the utilization of various teaching methods such as lectures, group simulations, and team projects to provide students with tools to be leaders in the global business world. The school offers graduate business majors in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), as well as joint degrees in medicine (MBA/MD), and engineering (MBA/ME). The school also offers cross-registration programs with the Fletcher School, the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, as well as the Vermont Law School. There are also plenty of internship and work study opportunities, as well as foreign exchange programs with programs in England, Japan, France, Spain, and Germany. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of general management, strategy, finance, as well as marketing.

Admission to Dartmouth's graduate Tuck School of Business is extremely competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 3,266 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 470 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 240 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.4, as well as an average GMAT score of about 698. The admissions committee has no required minimum statistics, and they view all admissions factors as important and holistic. Students are able to begin graduate course work in the fall only, and are notified of their admissions status within 4 to 6 weeks of the application deadline.

The Tuck School of Business has 45 full-time faculty members, of whom 96% hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 19 part-time faculty members. The average graduate business class numbers around 43 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 3 courses at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather extensive placement services available to both current students and alumni. These services include career counseling, web bulletins and online job postings, as well as a career services center. Last year, there were 160 companies actively recruiting on campus; the majors most in demand by these companies included general management and finance. The average starting salary of the most recent graduating class was around $134,515, however, it ranged from $51,000 to $335,000. About 81% of the same class were able to find jobs within three months of obtaining their degrees.

What's Good

"There a a ton of companies that come to recruit here, which makes things very convenient."

"The professors are amazing, and incredibly dedicated to this school, which is certainly a nice thing to see."

"The placement services are excellent, and if you don't have a job already, they can make the search a lot more manageable."

What's Bad

"There are a lot of students here with a lot of experience, which can be intimidating."

"There are some classes that are a bit too large for my tastes."

"We aren't exactly in the epicenter of the business world way up in New Hampshire."
