The Facts

National University is a rather large, private institution located in the town of La Jolla, California, however, the school also has 28 regional centers throughout the state. The university has a combined undergraduate and graduate enrollment of over 17,000 students, however, the graduate School of Business and Information Management is significantly smaller, and only has approximately 1,596 students. Approximately 93% of currently enrolled students have had full-time professional experience prior to entering graduate school, which is a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applicants. As a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 29, however, ages range from 17 all the way up to 62. Approximately 5% of currently enrolled students enter directly from their undergraduate education, while about 4% of students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The school of Business and Information management is perhaps best known for its unique blend of theory with practical application, ensuring that students will be ready for leadership roles in the real-world. The schools offers graduate degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Global Master of Business Administration (GMBA), Master of Health Care Administration (MHCA), Master of Forensic Sciences (MFS), Master of Arts in Management (MAM), Master of Arts in Human Resources Management (MA/HRM), Master of Public Administration (MPA), as well as Master of Science in electronic business, finance, information systems, taxation, and technology management (MS). Some of the most popular areas of study include courses in human resource management as well as marketing.

Admission to the National University's School of Business and Information Management is not competitive in the last, last year, all 1,889 applicants were accepted, and all 1,889 applicants enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.0, and an average GMAT score of 500, however, the GMAT's are actually not required. The admissions committee requires applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.5, however, if students have a GPA less than 2.5 but no less than a 2.0, they may present satisfactory scores of the GMAT, GRE, or MAT in order to bypass that requirement. Students are able to being graduate coursework in the fall, winter, spring, and summer, and admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis throughout the year.

The National University's School of Business and Information Management has 33 full-time faculty members, of whom 82% hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 358 part-time faculty members, of whom 30% hold a doctorate. The average graduate business class usually numbers around 15 students, and most full-time faculty members teach an average of 8 courses at a time.

Placement Services

The school's placement services are limited as most students are already employed full-time, and are only attending graduate business school to increase their marketability. In some cases, the students' employers highly encourage attendance, and often will finance the experience. However, services are available through the university placement office as well as several online services.
