The Facts

New York University is a rather large, private institution located in New York City, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 45,000 students. The graduate Leonard N. Stern School of Business is significantly smaller, however, and is home to about 2,450 graduate business students. All of the currently enrolled students have had an average of 4 years of full-time professional students, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 27, however, ages range from 20 to 47. Approximately 3% of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school, while about 5% of the students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The school is perhaps known for its immersion in the New York business scene, as well for its elective structure built upon a solid foundation of required management courses. The school offers graduate business degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Statistics and Operational Research (MSSOR), Master of Science in Information System (MSIS), Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA), as well as a doctoral program, and joint degrees in law (JD/MBA), French (MA/MBA), public administration (MPA/MBA), as well as biology (MS/MBA). The school also offers extensive work-study and internship programs, as well as foreign exchange with 30 countries. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of finance, information systems, international business, management, as well as marketing.

Admission to NYU's graduate Stern School of Business is extremely competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 4,962 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 755 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 391 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.4, as well as an average GMAT score of about 700. The admissions committee requires all applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.0, as well as a minimum GMAT score of at least 500. Students are able to begin graduate course work in either the fall or the spring, and are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis.

The school has 165 full-time faculty members, of whom 98% hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 38 part-time faculty members. The average graduate business class numbers around 47 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 3 courses at any given time.
