The Facts

Oklahoma City University is a rather small, private institution located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The university has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 3,530 students, however, the graduate Meinders School of Business is significantly smaller, and is home to about 910 graduate business students. Approximately 90% of the currently enrolled students have had an average of 5 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing portfolios. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 28, however, ages range from 20 all the way up to 59. Approximately 5% of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school, while about 2% of the students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The graduate Meinders School of Business is perhaps best known for its emphasis on global and international business issues and practices, as well as for its focus on leadership. The school offers graduate business degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Accounting (MSA), as well as a joint degree in law (MBA/JD). The school also offers plenty of work-study and internship opportunities, as well as several interdisciplinary programs in public management and integrated marketing communications. There are also foreign exchange programs with several countries throughout Asia. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of generalist finance, information technology, marketing, organizational behavior, as well as international business.

Admission to the university's graduate Meinders School of Business is fairly competitive among those who apply; last year, over 827 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 742 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 169 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming Fall semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.2, as well as an average GMAT score of about 540. The admissions committee requires all applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.5, as well as a minimum GMAT score of at least a 400. Students are able to begin graduate course work in the fall, winter, spring, or summer, and are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis.

The graduate school of business has 31 full-time faculty members, of whom 93% hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 15 part-time faculty members, of whom 60% hold a doctorate. The average graduate business class usually numbers around 22 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 26 credit hours.

Placement Services

The school has rather extensive placement services available to both current students and alumni that include career counseling, referrals, networking events, and online job listings. Last year, 60 companies were actively recruiting on campus, 80% of which were national corporations. The majors most in demand by these companies included finance, marketing, accounting, as well as management information systems. The average starting salary of the most recent graduating class was around $28,750, however, it ranged from $18,000 to $43,000. Over 85% of the same class were able to find jobs within three months of obtaining their degrees.
