The Facts

Quinnipiac University is a rather moderately-sized, private institution located in the town of Hamden, Connecticut, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 6,950 students. The university's graduate business program, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 297 graduate business students. Approximately 75% of the currently enrolled students have had an average of about 5 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 27, however, ages range from 21 to 64. Approximately 38% of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school, and about 3% of the students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The school is perhaps best known for its emphasis on a broad range of skills and theories in order to equip students with all the necessary means to become successful business leaders. The school offers graduate business degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Health Administration (MHA), Master of Science in Accounting (MSAcc), as well as joint degrees in law and business (JD/MBA), and law and health administration (JD/MHA). The school also offers students plenty of internship and work-study programs throughout the community. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of management, computer information systems, accounting, taxation, as well as health administration.

Admission to the university's graduate business program is quite competitive among those who apply; last year, over 170 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 125 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 92 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.12, as well as an average GMAT score of about 500. The admissions committee requires all applicants to have an minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.5, as well as a minimum GMAT score of at least 400. Students are able to begin their graduate course work in the fall, spring, or summer, and are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis.

The graduate business program has 55 full-time faculty members, all of whom hold a doctorate degree; the school is also home to 8 part-time faculty members, of whom 30% hold a doctorate. The average graduate business class usually numbers around 25 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 3 courses at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather limited placement services, as most students are already fully employed when they enroll. However, the services that are available are available to both current students and alumni. Some of these services include career counseling, job search services and online listings, a career library, as well as employer and credential files.

What's Good

"The program is fairly small, and it's nice to be able to know pretty much everyone on campus."

"The classes are nicely sized, and you really get a chance to have some great discussions as a result."

"There is actually quite a bit of graduate financial aid available, which is good news for those of us who are not yet CEOs!"

What's Bad

"Things can get a bit too intense and competitive for my tastes sometimes."

"I wish we didn't have to fulfill so many requirements."

"There aren't a huge amount of internships available; it's difficult to get placed in ones you really want."
