The Facts

Spring Hill College is a rather small, private institution located in the town of Mobile, Alabama, and is affiliated with the Catholic Church. The college has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 1,467 students, however, the college's Graduate Program in Business Administration is significantly smaller, and is home to about 38 graduate business students. Approximately 90% of the currently enrolled students have had an average of 5 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 28, however, ages range from 22 to 50. Approximately 8% of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school while about 1% of the students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The graduate program in business administration is perhaps best known for its focus on human relations, business ethics, as well as social responsibility. The school offers graduate business degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), as well a joint degree in public accounting (BS/MBA), as well as a 5 year BA or BS/MBA. The school also offers several internships and work-study opportunities to its students. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of economics, management, business strategy, policy, as well as accounting.

Admission to Spring Hill College's Graduate Program in Business Administration is not terrifically competitive among the relatively few students who apply; last year, over 40 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 25 of those students were accepted. Eventually, all 25 of the admitted students enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.0, as well as an average GMAT score of about 440. The admissions committee requires all applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.0, as well as a minimum GMAT score of at least 400. Students are able to begin their graduate course work in the fall, spring, or summer, and are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis.

The graduate business program has 5 full-time faculty members, of whom 80% hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 1 part-time faculty member, who holds a doctorate as well. The average graduate business class usually numbers around 8 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 2 courses at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather limited placement services, as most of the students are already fully-employed when they enroll in the program. The services that are available, however, are available to both current students as well as alumni for an unlimited amount of time after receiving their degrees through the college placement office.

What's Good

"The classes are tiny, so you really get a chance to learn how to work with a team."

"I like the emphasis on business ethics and social responsibility. I think it's very helpful in keeping things in perspective."

"The faculty here is extremely dedicated to this school, and they know every single student in the program."

What's Bad

"The program is too small for me, and things can get very competitive."

"I wish we had more options in terms of degrees. You can basically do the MBA, and that's it."

"The career services are the bare minimum. It would be nice to have more substantial services available to us."
