The Facts

The Stevens Institute of Technology is a rather small, private institution located in the town of Hoboken, New Jersey, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 4,200 students. The Wesley J. Howe School of Technology Management has about 2,370 graduate students, approximately 80% of whom have had an average of about 5 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 25, however, ages range from 21 all the way up to 65. Approximately 10% of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school, while about 2% of students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The school is perhaps best known for its emphasis on quantitative skills and technically-based courses, as well as for team-building exercises and case studies. The school offers graduate degrees in the Master of Science in Management (MSM), Executive Master of Technology Management (EMTM), Master of Science in Telecommunications Management (MSTM), Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS), as well as doctoral programs in information management and technology management, and a joint degree in construction management through the Schools of Technology Management and Engineering. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of economics, organizational behavior, management information systems, project management, quantitative methods, as well as technology management.

Admission to the Howe School of Technology Management is fairly competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 1,207 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 1,020 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 577 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.2; the GMAT is not required by the admissions committee, however, they do require all applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.5, as well as have a strong mathematics background. Students are able to begin graduate course work in the fall, spring, or summer, and are notified of their admission status on a rolling basis.

The Howe School of Technology Management has 24 full-time faculty members, of whom 83% hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 21 part-time faculty members, of whom 33% hold a doctorate. The average graduate business class numbers around 30 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 3 courses at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather extensive placement services that are available to both current students as well as alumni for an unlimited amount of time after receiving their degrees. Some of these services include online job listings, bulletins, career counseling, and resume referrals.
