The Facts

The University of Central Arkansas is a rather moderately-sized, public university located in the town of Conway, Arkansas, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 8,600 students. The university's graduate business program is significantly smaller however, and is home to about 164 graduate business students. Approximately 75% of the currently enrolled students have had an average of about 5 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 28, however, ages range from 20 all the way up to 50. Approximately 20% of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school, while about 2% already have a graduate degree of some sort. The graduate business program is perhaps best known for its emphasis on exposure to all areas of the business world, as well as for its emphasis on the usage of new computer technology. The school offers graduate business degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), International Master of Business Administration (IMBA), as well as Master of Accountancy (MSAcc). The school also offers its students foreign exchange programs with 2 countries, as well as plenty of internship and work-study opportunities. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of finance, marketing, general management, business administration, information systems management, as well as financial strategy.

Admission to the university's graduate business program is not competitive in the least among the students who apply; last year, about 60 students applied for admission to the school, and all 60 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 12 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.2, as well as an average GMAT score of about 480. The admissions committee requires all applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.7, as well as a minimum GMAT score of about 450. Students are able to begin their graduate course work in the fall, spring, or summer, and are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis.

The graduate business program has 14 full-time faculty members, all of whom hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 2 part-time faculty members, both of whom hold doctorates. The average graduate business class usually numbers around 25 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 18 credit hours at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather limited placement services as most students are already fully employed when they enroll. The services that do exist, however, are available to both current students as well as alumni for an unlimited amount of time after receiving their degrees. Some of these services include career counseling, networking events, as well as online job listings.

What's Good

"The professors are very dedicated, and they are extremely competent. Listen to their advice!"

"We have a great guest speaker series that does a good job of supplementing what we're learning in class."

"The career services, as few as there are, are great, and actually have helped me a great deal."

What's Bad

"Things do get very cutthroat here sometimes. People feel the need to prove themselves."

"The administration is far more concerned with the undergraduates."

"We aren't located in an urban center, which makes it difficult in terms of networking with local companies."
