The Facts

The University of La Verne is a rather moderately sized, private institution located in the appropriately titled town of La Verne, California, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate enrollment of over 7,660 students. The graduate School of Business and Global Studies, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to approximately 850 graduate students. Over 85% of the currently enrolled students have had an average of 5 to 7 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. As a result of this fact, the average age of entrance is around 33, however, ages range from 21 all the way up to 56. Approximately 7% of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school, while about 5% of students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The School of Business and Global Studies is perhaps best known for it's nontraditional training of business people for a more global environment and marketplace. The school offers graduate degrees in the Master of Science-Business Organizational Managemetn (MS), Master of Business Administration (Career MBA), Master of Business Administration for Experienced Professionals (MBA), Master of Business Information Technology (MBIT), as well as a joint degree in law (MBA/JD). The school also offers interdisciplinary programs in health services management and managed care, as well as many work-study programs and internships. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of international business, information technology, finance, as well as marketing.

Admission to the University of La Verne's graduate School of Business and Global Studies quite competitive among those who apply, last year, over 800 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 500 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 210 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.2, and an average GMAT score of about 550. The admissions committee requires applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.0, as well as a minimum GMAT score of at least 480. Students are able to begin graduate course work in the fall, winter, spring, or summer, and admission status is given out to students on a rolling basis.

The graduate School of Business and Global Studies has 15 full-time faculty members, of whom 73% hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 64 part-time faculty members, of whom 40% hold a doctorate. The average graduate business class numbers around 12 students, much to the delight of the students themselves.

Placement Services

The school has rather limited placement services as the majority of students are already employed full-time, however, what services that do exist are available to current students and alumni for an unlimited amount of years after they received their degree through the university placement office.

What's Good

"The classes are all TINY, which is great for getting one on one attention from the professors, as well as for having discussions."

"The faculty is wonderful here; not only do they really have a handle on their specialties, but they care about their students."

"There is a remarkable lack of pressure and competition here; people seem really supportive of one another."

What's Bad

"The tuition is getting up there, and graduate students tend to not receive a whole lot of financial aid."

"There are a ton of required credits to get through before you actually get to move onto your specialty itself."

"We don't have the world-class facilities that other schools may have."
