The Facts

The University of New Mexico is a rather large, public institution located in the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 24,700 students. The Robert O. Anderson Graduate School of Management, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 485 graduate business students. Approximately 95% of the currently enrolled students have had an average of about 5 years full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 31, however, ages range from 20 all the way up to 57. Approximately 30% of the currently enrolled students enter directly from undergraduate school, while about 17% of the students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The Anderson Graduate School of Management is perhaps best known for its emphasis on analyzation skills as well as combining various political, social, interpersonal, as economic issues into the overall business education experience. The school offers graduate business degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Accounting (MAcc), Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA), as well as joint degrees in law (JD/MBA) and latin American studies (MBA/MS). The school also offers plenty of work-study and internship opportunities, as well as foreign exchange programs with France and Mexico. Some of the most popular programs of study with students include courses in the areas of finance, marketing, as well as strategic management.

Admission to the University of New Mexico's Anderson Graduate School of Management is fairly competitive among the relatively few students who apply; last year, over 190 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 107 of those students were accepted. Eventually, all 107 of the admitted students enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.41, as well as an average GMAT score of about 552. The graduate admissions committee requires all applicants to have an minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.0, as well as a minimum GMAT score of at least 500. The average graduate business class numbers around 30 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 5 courses at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather extensive placement services available to both current students and alumni. Some of these services include career counseling, networking events, and resume referral. Last year, 30 companies were actively recruiting on campus, 53% of which were national corporations. The majors most in demand by these companies included accounting, finance, as well as marketing. The average starting salary of the most recent graduating class was around $51,312, however, it ranged from $38,000 to $75,000. Over 78% of the same class were able to find jobs within three months of receiving their graduate degree.
