The Facts

The University of Redlands is a rather moderately sized, private institution located in the town of Redlands, California, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate populations of over 8,500 graduate and undergraduate students. The university's graduate school of business is significantly smaller, and is home to approximately 500 graduate business students. All of the currently enrolled graduate business students have had an average of 5 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. As a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 35, however, ages range from 24 all the way up to 50. Approximately 16% of currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school, while over 3% of students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The Graduate School of Business is perhaps best known for catering primarily to business professionals and combining analytical, functional, and behavioral approaches. The school offers graduate business degrees in the Master of Arts in Management (MAM), as well as the Master of Science in Interactive Telecommunications (MSIT). The school also has a wonderful study abroad program in conjunction with Cambridge University in England. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of leadership, management information systems, as well as telecommunications policy.

Admission to the University of Redlands' graduate School of Business is quite competitive among the relatively few students who apply; last year, over 500 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 300 of those students were admitted. Eventually however, only about 180 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.5, as well as an average GMAT score of about 580, although this test is not required by the admissions committee. The committee does require all applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.0. Students are able to begin their graduate course work in the fall, winter, spring, or summer, and students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis.

The graduate School of Business has 16 full-time faculty members, of whom 75% hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 227 part-time faculty members. The average graduate business class numbers around 15 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 7 courses at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather limited placement services, however, the majority of students already have a full-time professional career. The placement services are, however, available to current students and alumni for an unlimited number of years after they receive their graduate degree. Services include a private executive search firm, seminars, job listings online, as well as networking events for current students as well as alumni.

What's Good

"The classes are nice and small, and that intimate environment is perfect for having discussions."

"I love how integrated the courses are here; everything relates to the other very nicely."

"The professors here are very very dedicated to their work; you don't get the feeling they're running off to a meeting somewhere."

What's Bad

"I wish the job placement services were a bit more extensive; it can be difficult for those of us who don't already have jobs."

"There isn't very much financial aid available, and the school isn't cheap."

"You do tend to feel a bit overshadowed by the undergraduate students. A lot of the administration's energy seems to be focused on them."
