The Facts

Xavier University is a rather moderately-sized, private institution located in the city of Cincinnati, Ohio, and is affiliated with the Jesuits. The university has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 6,800 students, however, the graduate Williams College of Business is significantly smaller, and is home to about 950 graduate business students. Approximately 90% of currently enrolled students have had an average of 5 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 33, however, ages range from 21 to 54. Approximately 8% of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school while about 3% of students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The graduate Williams College of Business is perhaps best known for its emphasis on management and leadership in order to prepare students as strong leaders in the global business world. The school offers graduate business majors in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), as well as joint degrees in health administration (MBA/MHA), and nursing (MBA/MSN). The school also offers plenty of internship and work-study opportunities, as well as foreign exchange programs in China and France. Students also have the opportunity to participate in joint research with local businesses. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of information systems, finance, marketing, as well as international business.

Admission to the university's graduate Williams College of Business is fairly competitive among the relatively few students who apply; last year, over 300 students applied for admission to the school, and about 200 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 158 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.32, as well as an average GMAT score of about 560. The admissions committee requires all applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.0, as well as a minimum GMAT score of at least 400. Students are able to begin graduate course work in the fall, spring, or summer, and are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis.

The school has 52 full-time faculty members, of whom 92% hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 25 part-time faculty members, of whom 5% hold a doctorate. The average graduate business class usually numbers around 28 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 9 credit hours at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather limited placement services, as most students are already fully employed. However, there are some services available to both current students as well as alumni. The average starting salary of the most recent graduating class was around $60,000, however, it ranged from $40,000 to $150,000.

What's Good

"The school has a really intimate feel to it, which is nice in my opinion."

"There aren't a huge amount of requires courses we have to take, which I like because you can pick and choose your own curriculum."

"Being in a city definitely helps with internships and networking."

What's Bad

"There is virtually no financial aid available to graduate students, and the school is not inexpensive."

"Some of my professors are so busy running off to other courses that they don't have time to help you out outside of your own class."

"People can be unnecessarily competitive here sometimes, which can be stressful."
