Haverford College Application
The Facts
Haverford College is a small, private liberal arts college located in the town of Haverford, Pennsylvania, and is home to over 1,160 undergraduate students. The school is arguably one of the best liberal arts colleges in the country, and offers its student a well-rounded and solid liberal arts curriculum, as well as a slew of unique majors and minors. The school runs on a strict student-mandated Honor Code, which has students monitoring their own exams and enforcing campus regulations. The students are offered a very wide range of majors at Haverford, and some of the most popular choices include English, biology, history, economics, and political science.
Admission to Haverford College is quite competitive, and the applicant pool has been steadily increasing over the past ten years as attention on the school increases. Last year, over 3,000 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 870 of those students were admitted; of those, about 300 matriculated. The admitted students had an average combined SAT score ranging from 1290 to an impressive 1450, and an average comprehensive ACT score ranging from 28 to 32. Additionally, over 82% of those admitted were ranked in the top 25% of their high school graduating class with an average high school GPA of about 3.87.
Haverford has an amazing student to faculty ratio of 8:1, and the school is renowned for the amount of attention that students constantly receive from professors. The students love that their teachers are always available and ready to help. Their assistance is often needed, as the school's academics are quite intense and time-consuming. We also hear, however, that students rarely get competitive and keep their grades to themselves.
The Social Scene
The town of Haverford is quite small and quaint, with several cute shops, cafes, and pubs that keep students relatively entertained on the weekends. The college of Bryn Mawr is nearby, and the school operates a free shuttle bus between the schools. The city of Philadelphia is only about 20 minutes away by train, and is a popular weekend destination for students who crave a bit more urban excitement.
There are no fraternities or sororities at Haverford, but students couldn't care less. The college is definitely not known for being a party school, and most students are too engrossed in their studies to let loose on the weekends. If you are looking for a typical, party-filled collegiate experience, Haverford is probably not the school for you.
Athletics are also not terrifically popular at the school, although there are some great intramural sports like ultimate frisbee.
The dating scene is pretty diverse and equally as open; you are even allowed to room with a member of the opposite sex.

What’s Bad

“Sometimes the professors come off as a bit aloof. It can really get to you after awhile.”
