The Facts

Boston College is a rather large, private institution located in the town of Newton, Massachusetts, and is affiliated with the Roman Catholic church. The college has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 14,000 students, however, the college's law school is significantly smaller, and is home to about 798 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 25, and it is quite rare for students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its diversity of teaching methods and styles, for its wonderful and extensive research resources, as well as for its nationally recognized clinical program. The school offers degrees in the 3 year JD, as well as joint degrees in the 4 year JD/MBA, the 4 year JD/MSW, as well as the 3 year JD/MEd. However, over 97% of the most recent graduating class were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees, and had an average starting salary of about $90,477. Students are most frequently hired by firms such as Bingham McCutchen, Goodwin Procter, Holland and Knight, Foley Hoag, McDermott Will and Emery, Mintz Levin, Palmer and Dodge, Ropes and Gray, Sidley Austin Brown and Wood, as well as Skadden Arps. The school has several very prominent alumni to its name, including senator and Democratic nominee for president John Kerry, as well as Debra Yang, United State Attorney for the state of California.
