The Facts

The Brooklyn Law School is a rather small, private institution located in the borough of Brooklyn, New York, and has a population of over 1,518 graduate law students. The school is only a law school, and is not affiliated with a larger college or university. The average age of enrollment is around 24, and it is fairly rare for any student to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its diverse teaching methods and styles, its wonderful library and research resources, its abundance of internship, externship, and clerkship opportunities, as well as for its professional connections in the New York City metropolitan area. The school offers degrees in the JD, as well as joint degrees in the JD/MA in political science, the JD/MS in planning, the JD/MBA, the JD/MS in library and information science, the JD/M in urban planning, as well as the JD/MPA. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of health science, public policy, civil procedure, commercial law, constitutional law, corporation securities law, criminal law, government services, human rights law, intellectual property law, international law, law and cognition, legal history, legal philosophy, property, as well as taxation.

Admission to the Brooklyn Law School is quite competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 4,822 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 976 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 300 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 161 to 164, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.4. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and are able to take advantage of the school's early application program.

The law school has 127 faculty members, and students say that their professors are incredibly passionate, experienced, and available at all times. There is also an open door policy that makes it easy for students to talk to their professors about any subject. The school has a fairly manageable student to faculty ratio of 18:1, however, many students say that they feel the school is taking in too many students, which has been leading to crowded classes.

Employment Facts

Brooklyn Law School students don't seem to worry too much about getting a job after graduation; in fact, over 98% of the most recent graduating class were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees. Students are most frequently hired by firms including Cahill Gordon, Fried Frank Harris Shriver and Jacobson, Pillsbury, Winthrop, Proskauer Rose, as well as the New York City law department.

What's Good

What's Bad

"The administration could do better in terms of listening to students' needs and requests."

"There is no on campus housing available, which would certainly be nice."

"There isn't much financial aid given out, and the school is quite expensive to attend."
