The Facts

DePaul University is a rather large, private institution located in the city of Chicago, Illinois, and is affiliated with the Roman Catholic church. The university has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 19,000 students, however, the university's College of Law is significantly smaller, and is home to about 1,111 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 25, however, it is quite rare for any students to enter directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its strong ties to the Chicago legal community, as well as for its wonderful library and its subsequent research resources. The school offers degrees in the 1 to 3 year LLM in health law, the 1 to 3 year LLM in taxation, as well as the 1 to 3 year LLM in intellectual property law. The school also offers joint degrees in the 3 to 4 year JD/MBA, the 4 year JD/MS in public service management, the 4 year JD/MA in international studies, the 4 year JD/MA in computer science, as well as the 4 year JD/MS in computer science. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of commercial law, criminal law, human rights law, intellectual property law, international law, taxation, family law, health law, information technology law, as well as public interest law.

Admission to DePaul University's College of Law is extremely competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 4,814 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 1,444 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 364 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 156 to 161, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.3. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and there is currently no early applications program in place.

The College of Law has 100 faculty members, and students agree that they all have that certain something that allows them to make even the most boring class endurable. They also make themselves very accessible, and students say that can go and talk to them about anything, even not concerning law or academics. The school has a rather manageable student to faculty ratio of 17:1, however, some students complain that some of their classes are too large.

Employment Facts

Students at DePaul's College of Law don't seem to be terribly concerned when it comes to finding a job after graduating. In fact, over 94% of the most recently graduating class were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees. Students are most frequently hired by private firms including Bell Boyd and Lloyd, Chapman and Cutler, Hinshaw and Culbertson, Kirkland and Ellis, Vedder Price Kaufman and Kammholz, Winston and Strawn, as well as the Cook County's State Attorney's Office.
