The Facts

Emory University is a rather large, private institution located in the city of Atlanta, Georgia, and is affiliated with the Methodist church. The university has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 12,500 students, however, the university's School of Law is significantly smaller, and is home to about 685 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 22, and many of the students enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its ties to the legal community of the Atlanta metropolitan area, as well as for its emphasis on practical skills that can be used in the real world. The school offers degrees in the 1 year LLM, as well as the 3 to 4 year JD. Students are also able to get joint degrees in the 4 year JD/MBA, the 4 year JD/MTS, the 5 year JD/MDIV, the 3.5 year JD/MPH, the 4 year JD/LLM, the 3 year JD/REES, the 5 year JD/PhD in religion, as well as the 4 year JD/MA in Judaic studies. Some of the most popular programs include courses in the areas of business law, comparative law, constitutional law, criminal law, environmental law, health law, human rights law, intellectual property law, international law, labor law, law and religion, legal theory, taxation, as well as trial practice.

Admission to Emory University's School of Law is quite competitive among the many students who apply. Last year, over 3,852 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 1,016 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 215 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 161 to 165, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.4. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and there is currently no early application program in place.

The school of law has 56 faculty members, and students are in awe of their ability, expertise and experience. They also make themselves extremely available to their students, and have an open door policy about everything. The school has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of 14:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of discussion and interaction between students and their professors.

Employment Facts

Students at the school of law don't seem to have too much anxiety about finding a job after graduating. In fact, over 93% of the most recent graduating class were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degree. Students are most frequently hired by firms such as Alston and Bird, Arent Fox, Arnall Golden Gregory, Arnold and Porter, Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Chadbourne and Parke, Crowell and Moring, Holland and Knight, Jones Day, Kilpatrick Stockton, as well as King and Spalding.

What's Bad

"The facilities could be better. The classrooms feel like prisons sometimes."

"There are too many required courses for my taste."
