The Facts

Georgetown University is a rather prestigious, private institution affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church, and is located in Washington D.C. The university has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 15,000 students, however, the university's graduate Law Center is significantly smaller, and is home to about 1,936 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 25, and it is fairly rare for students to enter directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its prime location in the epicenter of the national law and justice world, as well as for its amazing research resources and abundant internship, externship, and clerkship opportunities. The school offers degrees in the SJDm LLM taxation, LLm securities and financial regulation, LLM individualized, LLM general studies, LLM international legal studies, certificate in employee benefits, certificate in international human rights law, certificate in national security law, as well as a certificated in IIEL/WTO studies. The school also offers a wide range of joint degrees in the JD/MBA, JD/MPH, JD/MPP, JD/MSFS, JD/PhD in government, JD/PhD or MA in philosophy, JD/MAAS, JD/MAGES, JD//MALAS, JD/MAREES, as well as the JD/MASSP. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of alternative dispute resolution, civil procedure, clinical legal studies, commercial law, constitutional law, corporation securities law, criminal law, environmental law, government services, human rights law, intellectual property law, international law, labor law, legal history, legal philosophy, property, as well as taxation.

Admission to Georgetown's Law Center is extremely competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 11,620 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 2,143 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 453 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 166 to 170, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.7. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and are able to take advantage of the school's early application program.

The Law Center has 211 faculty members, and students agree that they are very dedicated to the school as well as to their own students. The school has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of 14:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of interaction and discussion.

Employment Facts

Over 98% of the most recent graduating class were able to find a job within a few months of receiving their degrees, and they had an average starting salary of about $105,000. The employers who most frequently hire students include the areas of academia, business, industry, government, judicial clerkships, military, private practices and firms, as well as public interest organizations.
