George Washington University is a rather large, private institution located in Washington D.C., and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 15,000 students. The university's law school, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 1,578 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 24, and it is fairly rare for any students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its emphasis on international law and human rights law, its huge amount of high profile internships, externships, and clerkships, as well as for its prestigious connections within the Washington legal community. It is interesting to note that the campus is only 4 blocks away from the White House itself! The school offers degrees in the 3 year JD, the 1 to 2 year Master of Laws as well as the 3 year doctor of juridical science. The school also offers combined degrees in the JD/MBA, the JD/MPA, the JD/MA in international affairs, the JD/MA in history, the JD/MA in women's studies, as well as the JD/MPH. All of the joint degrees can be completed in 4 years with full-time plus some summer attendance. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in civil procedure, commercial law, constitutional law, corporation securities law, criminal law, environmental law, government contracts, human rights law, intellectual property law, international law, labor law, legal history, legal philosophy, property, as well as taxation.

Admission to George Washington University's law school is extremely competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 11,171 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 2,066 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 512 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 162 to 166, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.5. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and there is currently no early application program in place.
