The Facts

Lewis and Clark College is a rather small, private institution located in the city of Portland, Oregon, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 3,250 students. The college's law school, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 742 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 27, and it is quite rare for any students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its wonderful library and consequent research resources, for its strong connections within the Portland legal and professional community, as well as for its emphasis on environmental law. The school offers degrees in the 1 year LLM in environmental and natural resources, as well as the 3 year JD. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of commercial law, corporation securities law, criminal law, environmental law, government services, intellectual property law, labor law, property, as well as taxation.

Admission to Lewis and Clark College's law school is quite competitive among those who apply; last year, over 2,480 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 900 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 235 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 158 to 164, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.2. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and there is currently no early application program in place.

The law school has 107 faculty members who all come from very diverse legal and professional backgrounds. Students say they are incredibly accessible, and truly care about the well-being and success of their students. The school has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of about 14:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of discussion and interaction between professors and their students.

Employment Facts

Students at Lewis and Clark College's law school don't seem too anxious about finding jobs after graduation; in fact, over 92% of the most recent graduating class were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degree, and had an average starting salary of about $50,568. Students are most frequently hired by various small and midsize firms throughout the area, as well as by state governments in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska.

What's Good
