The Facts

The New England School of Law is a rather small, private institution located in the city of Boston, Massachusetts, and is home to over 1,100 graduate law students. The school is only a law school, and is not affiliated with any larger college or university. The average age of enrollment is around 26, and it is quite rare for any students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its wonderful location and ties within the Boston legal community, as well as for its emphasis on practical experience and application of legal philosophy. The school offers degrees in the 3 to 4 year JD, as well as the 1 year LLM. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in taxation, civil law, dispute resolution, as well as family and child law.

Admission to the New England School of Law is quite competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 3,465 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 1,315 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 394 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 149 to 153, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.1. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and there is currently no early application program in place.

The New England School of Law has 108 faculty members, all of whom come from very diverse legal and professional backgrounds. Students rave about their accessibility and expertise, saying that they are always available to provide help. The school has a rather manageable student to faculty ratio of about 20:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of discussion and interaction between students and their professors.

Employment Facts

Students at New England School of Law often complain about being the underdog of the Boston law schools, as there are a huge amount of other law schools in the immediate surrounding area. However, over 90% of the most current graduating students were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees, and had an average starting salary of about $52,910. Students are most frequently hired by employers such as Leonard P. Zakim, the Anti-Defamation league, Boston Bridge, various private firms, as well as governmental organizations.

What's Good

"I think this school is really one of the hidden jewels of the east coast law schools."

"The faculty here have so much experience, and you can tell that they really love their jobs."

"The administration really cares about the students, and you never feel like just another number."

What's Bad

"The facilities could definitely be more up to date. We are kind of lacking in the technology department."

"Our school is completely overshadowed by the other more prestigious Boston law schools. It's rather unfortunate."

"There are some professors who feel the need to use intimidation as a way of stating their authority."
