The Facts

Northeastern University is a rather large, private institution located in the city of Boston, Massachusetts, and is home to a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 18,500 students. The university's law school, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 620 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 25, and it is quite rare for any students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its emphasis on progressive lawyering, its wonderful reputation in the Boston legal market, as well as for its wonderful hands-on Cooperative Legal Education program. The school offers degrees in the 3 year JD, as well as joint degrees in the 4 year JD/MBA, the 4 year JD/MBA/MS in accountancy, as well as the 4 year JD/MPH in public health. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of civil procedure, commercial law, constitutional law, corporation securities law, criminal law, environmental law, human rights law, intellectual property law, international law, labor law, property, as well as taxation.

Admission to Northeastern University's school of law is extremely competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 3,843 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 885 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 220 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 157 to 162, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.5. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and are able to take advantage of the school's early admissions program if they so choose.

The school of law has 78 faculty members, all of whom come from very diverse legal and professional backgrounds. Students rave about the approachability and accessibility of their professors, saying that they are brilliant, experienced, and very dedicated to the school and their students. The school has a rather manageable student to faculty ratio of about 19:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of interaction and discussion between students and their professors.

Employment Facts

Students at Northeastern University's School of Law don't seem terribly concerned about finding jobs after graduating; in fact, over 90% of the most recent graduating students were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees, and had an average starting salary of about $70,000. Students are most frequently hired by employers such as Mintz Levin Cohen Ferris Glovsky and Popeo PC, Goodwin Proctor LLP, the Massachusetts Superior Court and Appeals Court, Greater Boston Legal Services, the Securities and Exchange Commission, Health Law Advocates, The Legal Aid Society, Brigham McCutcheon LLP, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals.

"There isn't really much competition between students as a result of the school's unique grading system."

What's Bad

"The facilities could definitely use an update or two..."

"There isn't really enough on campus graduate housing, and it's difficult to find affordable housing off campus."

"There could definitely be a lot more financial aid available to graduate students. The school isn't cheap."
