The Facts

Quinnipiac University is a rather small, private institution located in the town of Hamden, Connecticut, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 6,950 students. The university's School of Law, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 653 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 25, and it is fairly rare for any students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its wonderful library and subsequent research resources, for its sky-high tuition, as well as for its emphasis on practical legal skills. The school offers degrees in the 3 year JD, as well as a combined degree in the 4 year JD/MBA in business administration. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of civil advocacy, dispute resolution, criminal law, intellectual property law, taxation, health law, as well as family and juvenile law.

Admission to Quinnipiac University's School of Law is quite competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 2,130 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 546 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 154 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 152 to 156, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.2. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and there is currently no early application program in place.

The school of law has 68 total faculty members, all of whom come from very diverse legal and professional backgrounds. Students say that they are constantly available to answer questions and give advice, and that they are extremely approachable and always willing to sit and talk with their students. The school has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of about 15:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of discussion and interaction between students and their professors.

Employment Facts

Students at the school of law seem to express a bit of concern when it comes to finding a job after graduation, as a result of falling bar exam passing rates, as well as the school's curve grading policy. However, over 98% of the most recently graduating class were able to find jobs a few months after graduating, and had an average starting salary of about $56,460. Students are most frequently hired by employers such as law firms, corporations, public defender offices, prosecutor offices, as well as various governmental and public interest organizations.

What's Good

"The school has a nice, communal feel to it. I think the small size helps."

"The faculty is great, and they will go the extra mile to help you out."

"The campus and facilities are amazing, probably as a result of the super-high tuition we have to pay..."

What's Bad

"There are a lot of students here who never seem to have gotten over high school. There is a gossip mill like I've never experienced."

"The career services offices needs to do a better job of attracting attention to the school."

"There needs to be a lot more financial aid available. The price tag on this school is ridiculous."
