The Facts

Regent University is a rather small, private institution located in the town of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and is affiliated with the Christian church. The university has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 4,000 students. The university's school of law is significantly smaller, and is home to about 510 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 25, and it is fairly rare for any of the students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its unwavering emphasis on Christian, ethical lawyering, as well as for its dedicated and caring faculty members. The school offers degrees in the 3 year JD, as well as combined degrees in the 4 year JD/MBA, the 4 year JD/MGov, the 4 year JD/MA in management, the 4 year JD/MA in counseling, the 4 year JD/MA in communication, as well as the 4 year JD/MA in divinity. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of family law, civil law, criminal law, dispute resolution, as well as human rights law.

Admission to Regent University's fairly new School of Law is fairly competitive among the relatively few students who apply; last year, over 734 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 310 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 188 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 150 to 155, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.2. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and there is currently no early application program in place.

The school of law has 24 faculty members, many of whom come from prestigious institutions such as Yale, Harvard and Chicago Schools of Law. They are extremely dedicated, and truly care about their students, often making themselves available nearly around the clock. The school has a decent student to faculty ratio of 20:1, and classes are quite a bit larger than at other small law schools, but the administration does everything they can to keep them under 60 students.

Employment Facts

Students at the school of law do seem a bit anxious about finding jobs after graduating, particularly as a result of the fact that the school is so new. However, over 84% of the most recently graduating students were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees, and had an average starting salary of about $41,411. Students are most frequently hired by employers such as the American Center for Law and Justice, Just Law International, U.S. Air Force Jag Corps, Alliance Defense fund, Williams Mullen, Virginia Beach Public Defender's office, as well as Lexis-Nexis.
