The Facts

Rutgers University is a rather large, public institution located in the town of Camden, New Jersey, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 32,000 students. The university's School of Law, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 770 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 25, and it is quite rare for any students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its diversity of students and faculty, its wonderful library and consequent research resources, as well as its abundance of internship, externship, and clerkship opportunities. The school offers degrees in the 3 year JD, as well as combined degrees in the 4 year JD/MBA, the 4 year JD/MPA, the 4 year JD/MSW, the 3.5 year JD/MS in public policy, the 4 year JD/MCRP in city and regional planning, the 4 year JD/MD and JD/DO in conjunction with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, as well as the 4 year JD/MPA in public administration and health management and policy. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of commercial law, constitutional law, corporation securities law, criminal law, environmental law, family law, health law, international law, labor law, as well as taxation.

Admission to Rutgers University's School of Law is quite competitive among the many student who apply; last year, over 2,554 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 544 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 252 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 159 to 163, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.4. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and there is currently no early admissions program in place.

The School of Law has 116 faculty members, all of whom come from very diverse legal and professional backgrounds. Students rave about their accessibility and approachability, saying they always know they can contact them for assistance. The school has a amazing student to faculty ratio of about 5:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of interaction and discussion between students and their professors.

Employment Facts

Students at Rutger's School of Law don't seem to worry very much about finding a job after graduating; in fact, over 96% of the most recently graduating class were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees. Students are most frequently hired by local and national law firms, various business and industry groups, judicial clerkships, as well as various governmental organizations.
