The Facts

Seattle University is a rather large, private institution located in the appropriately titled city of Seattle, Washington, and is affiliated with the Roman Catholic church. The university has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 10,000 students, however, the university's School of Law is significantly smaller, and is home to about 1,102 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 28, and it is quite rare for any of the students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its connections within the Seattle-area legal and professional community, as well as for its wonderful research resources. The school offers degrees in the 3 year JD and LLM, with specializations available in psychology, applied economy, software engineering, finance and international business, as well as public administration. The school also offers combined degrees in the JD/MBA, the JD/master of international business, the JD/MS in finance, as well as the JD/master of professional accounting. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of commercial law, constitutional law, corporation securities law, criminal law, environmental law, estate planning, health law and real estate, human rights law, intellectual property law, international law, labor law, legal writing, poverty law, property, as well as taxation.

Admission to Seattle University's School of Law is quite competitive among those who apply; last year, over 2,920 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 818 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 342 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 153 to 160, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.4. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and there is currently no early application program in place.

The School of Law has 96 faculty members, all of whom come from very diverse legal and professional backgrounds. Students rave about their accessibility and approachability, saying that they are always available to give assistance. The school has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of 16:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of interaction and discussion between students and their professors.

Employment Facts

Students at the School of Law aren't terribly worried about finding jobs after graduating: in fact, 100% of the most recently graduating class were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees, and had an average starting salary of about $61,000. Students are most frequently hired by employers such as Perkins Coie, Powell Spears Lubersky, the King County Prosecuting Attorney, as well as the Washington State Attorney General.

What's Good

"The school is really keyed in to the entire Seattle legal scene, which is definitely good new for students."

"The professors here are wonderful, and know how to make a potentially boring subject absolutely riveting."

"The facilities are wonderful, and we have top of the line technology in every building."

What's Bad

"There is never enough financial aid available, and trust me, this school isn't cheap."

"There isn't any on campus graduate housing, which can be a bit of a pain."

"There can be quite a bit of competition between students here. People really feel the need to prove themselves."
