The Facts

Stanford University is one of the most prestigious private institutions in the country located in the town of Stanford, California near San Francisco. The university has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 25,000 students, however, the university's School of Law is significantly smaller, and is home to about 514 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 24, and it is rare for students to enter directly from undergraduate school. The school is perhaps best known for its diversity of opinions and teaching methods, its fantastic research resources, as well as its huge amount of internship and clerkship opportunities. The school offers degrees in the 1 year MLS, the 1 year JSM, the 1 year LLM, as well as the 2 year JSd program. The school also offers joint degrees in the JD/MBA as well as the JD/MA. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of civil procedure, commercial law, constitutional law, corporation securities law, criminal law, environmental law, government services, human rights law, intellectual property law, international law, labor law, legal history, legal philosophy, property, as well as taxation.

Admission to Stanford's School of Law is extremely competitive among the many students who apply each year; last year, over 5,040 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 390 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 166 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 166 to 172, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.8. Students are notified of their admissions status by the end of the month of April, and there is currently no early application program available.

The school has 43 faculty members, and students agree that the faculty members are extremely devoted and engaging, and truly care about the well-being and success of their students. The school has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of 12:1, and students say that the small classes are a great way to learn through discussion and debate. Professors make themselves as available as possible, which students greatly appreciate.

Employment Facts

Stanford School of Law students don't seem to worry too much about getting a job after they complete their degrees. Over 97% of the most currently graduating class were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees. Students are most often hired by employers in the areas of business, industry, government, judicial clerkships, private practices, public interest organizations, as well as large national law firms.
