The Facts

Tulane University is a rather large, private institution located in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 10,600 students. The university's Law School, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 985 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 24, and it is fairly rare for any of the students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its huge variety of courses and specialties, as well as for its emphasis on practical legal skills. The school offers degrees in the 3 year PhD, including the 1 year LLM master of laws, the master of laws in admiralty, master of laws in energy and environment, master of laws in international and comparative law, as well as the master of laws in American business law. The school also offers combined degrees in the 6 year JD/BA or JD/BS, the 4 year JD/MBA, the 4 year JD/MHA, the 4 year JD/MSPH, the 2 year LLM/MSPH, the 4 to 4.5 year JD/MSW, the the 3 to 4 year JD/MA in international affairs, Latin American studies, the 3.5 to 4 year JD/MACCT, as well as the 3 to 3.5. year JD/MS in international development. Some of the most popular areas of study include courses in the areas of admiralty and maritime law, civil law, environmental law, intellectual property law, international law, public interest law, as well as sports law.

Admission to Tulane University's Law School is quite competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 4,087 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 1,055 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 300 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The law school has 50 faculty members, all of whom come from very diverse legal and professional backgrounds. In general, students rave about the accessibility and availability of their professors, saying that they are always around to provide assistance and answer any questions that students may have. The school has a fairly manageable student to faculty ratio of 19:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of discussion and interaction between students and their professors.
