The Facts

The University of Akron is a rather large, public institution located in the town of Akron, Ohio, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 10,000 students. The university's School of Law, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 570 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 26, and it is quite rare for any students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its wonderful research resources, as well as for its wide range of legal specialties offered to students. The school offers degrees in the 3 year JD, as well as the 1 year LLM in intellectual property, as well as combined degrees in the 4 year JD/MBA, the JD/MS in management in human resources, the JD/MTax, the JD/MA in applied politics, as well as the JD/MPA in public administration. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of business law, criminal law, intellectual property law, international law, litigation, as well as taxation.

Admission to the University of Akron's School of Law is quite competitive among those who apply; last year, over 1,928 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 366 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 106 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 156 to 161, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.3. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and there is currently no early application program available.

The School of Law has 56 faculty members, all of whom come from very diverse legal and professional backgrounds. Students rave about the accessibility and availability of their professors, saying that they are always around to give advice and clear things up for students. The school has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of about 16:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of discussion and interaction between students and their professors.

Employment Facts

Students at the School of Law don't seem terribly anxious about finding jobs after graduating; in fact, over 95% of the most recently graduating students were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees, and had an average starting salary of about $56,560. Students are most frequently hired by employers such as Buckingham Dolittle and Burroughs, Brouse and McDowell, Roetzel and Andress, Squire Sanders and Dempsey, Sughrue Mion, as well as Jones Day.
