The Facts

The university of Arizona is a rather large, public institution located in the city of Tucson, Arizona, and is has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 22,000 students. The university’s James E. Rogers College of Law, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 475 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 25, and is it quite rare for any of the students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate educations. The school is perhaps best known for its wonderful research resources, its huge amount of internship, externship and clerkships available to students, as well as for its strong connections in the state’s legal and professional communities. The school offers degrees in the 3 year JD, the LLM in international trade law, the LLM in indigenous peoples law and policy, as well as combined degrees in the JD/PhD in philosophy, psychology or economics, the JD/MBA, the JD/MPA, the JD/MA in American Indian studies, the JD/MA in economics, women’s studies, or Latin American studies, as well as the JD/MS in management and finance. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of commercial law, constitutional law, corporation securities law, criminal law, environmental law, human rights law, Indian law, intellectual property law, international indigenous peoples rights and policy, international law, trade law, legal history, legal philosophy, property, as well as taxation.

Admission to the James E. Rogers College of Law is quite competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 2,560 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 455 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 153 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 160 to 166, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.5. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and there is currently no early application program in place.

The Rogers College of Law has 85 faculty members, all of whom come from very diverse legal and professional backgrounds. Students rave about the accessibility and quality of their professors, saying they know how to make even the most boring subjects engaging. The school has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of about 13:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of discussion and interaction between students and their professors.

Employment Facts

Students at the College of Law don’t seem to be terribly anxious when it comes to finding a job after graduating; in fact, over 93% of the most recently graduating students were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees, and had an average starting salary of about $62,000. Students are most frequently hired by employers such as Snell and Wilmer, Quarles and Brady Streich Lang, Bryan Cave Gibson Dunn and Crutcher, Squire Sanders, as well as Jennings Strouss and Salmon.
