The Facts

The University of Cincinnati is a rather large, public institution located in the city of Cincinnati, Ohio, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 35,400 students. The university’s College of Law is significantly smaller, and is home to about 360 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 25, and it is fairly rare for any of the students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its emphasis on international human rights law, as well as for its excellent research resources. The school offers degrees in the 3 year JD, as well as combined degrees in the 4 year JD/MBA, the JD/MA in women’s studies, the JD/MCP, as well as the JD/MSW. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of criminal law, human rights law, intellectual property law, taxation, corporate law as well as psychiatric law.

Admission to the University of Cincinnati’s College of Law is extremely competitive among those who apply; last year, over 1,178 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 395 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 135 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 157 to 162, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.5. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and there is currently no early application program in place.

The College of Law has 24 faculty members, all of whom come from very diverse legal and professional backgrounds. Students rave about their accessibility and willingness to help out students when they may need it, saying they are always available to talk about anything, even if it’s not law related. The school has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of about 13:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of interaction and discussion between students and their professors.

Employment Facts

Students at the College of Law don’t seem terribly nervous about finding jobs after graduating; in fact, over 94% of the most recently graduating students were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees, and had an average starting salary of around $57,086. Students are most frequently hired by employers such as major law firms throughout the city and state, as well as various governmental organizations and various corporations.
