The Facts

The University of Notre Dame is a rather large, private school located in the town of South Bend, Indiana, and is affiliated with the Roman Catholic church. The university has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 11,500 students, however, the university’s Law School is significantly smaller, and is home to about 550 graduate law students. The average age of enrollment is around 24, and it is fairly rare for any of the students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its emphasis on values, morality, and social responsibility, as well as for its prestigious year-long program in London. The school offers degrees in the 1 year LLM in international human rights, the J/SD in international human rights, the 1 year LLM in international comparative law, the 3 year JD, as well as combined degrees in the JD/MBA, the JD/ME, as well as the JD/MA in English. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of human rights, as well as international law.

Admission to the University of Notre Dame’s Law School is quite competitive among the many students who apply; over 3,770 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 515 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 178 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 162 to 167, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.5. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and are able to take advantage of the school’s early application program if they so choose.

The Law School has 78 faculty members, all of whom come from very diverse legal and professional backgrounds. In general, students rave about their accessibility and approachability, saying that they have the ability to make even the most boring subjects interesting. The school has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of about 16:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of discussion and interaction between students and their professors.

Employment Facts

Students at the university’s Law School don’t seem terribly anxious about finding jobs after graduating; in fact, over 98% of the most recently graduating students were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees, and had an average starting salary of about $98,825. Students are most frequently hired by employers such as major law firms throughout the country and even abroad, various federal and state judges, governmental agencies, as well as various corporations and public interest organizations.
