The Facts

Villanova University is a rather small, private institution located in the town of Villanova, Pennsylvania, and is affiliated with the Roman Catholic church. The school has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 8,000 students. The average age of enrollment is around 23, and it is not entirely rare for any of the students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its large amount of internship, externship, and clerkship opportunities, its wonderful research resources, as well as for its diversity. The school offers degrees in the 3 year JD, the LLM in taxation, as well as combined degrees in the JD/MBA, the JD/PhD in psychology, as well as the JD/LLM. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of international taxation, clinical law, advocacy, as well as criminal justice.

Admission to Villanova University's School of Law is quite competitive among the many students who applied; last year, over 2,924 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 920 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 248 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 157 to 162, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.5. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and there is currently no early application program in place.

The School of Law has 111 faculty members, all of whom come from relatively diverse legal and professional backgrounds. In general, the students rave about the experience and dedication of their professors, although they do complain about their strict adherence to the Socratic method. The school has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of about 17:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of discussion between students and their professors.

Employment Facts

Students at the School of Law don't seem terribly nervous about finding jobs after graduating; in fact, over 95% of the most recently graduating students were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees, and had an average starting salary of about $67,972. Students are most frequently hired by employers such as various state and federal judges, private law firms in Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Washington DC, as well as Delaware.
